Video Walls: Understanding the Associated Variable Costs!

Your company has thought long and hard and has decided to propel its business into the future of technology by purchasing a video wall. You may be asking yourself “How can I customize the wall to fit the specific needs of our business, and how do these different customizations affect the overall cost”?

The answer is relatively simple. Know your budget and choose what is important for your business!

1) Does your video wall need to be interactive or non-interactive?

Interactive Video Walls

By offering an interactive element, you will provide a “hands on” experience with you, your guests and your video wall, literally. Interactive “touch-screen” video walls provide an engaging experience that is memorable and educational through the use of two of the five senses; touch and sight! You may be wondering what some of the ways are that you can deliver interactivity on the video wall?

Well, here are a few:

  • Game Content
  • Directions from point A to point B
  • Moving Wall Art
  • Social Media engagement
  • Data capturing
  • Presentations and education

Non-interactive video walls

Non-interactive walls can be used for large scale digital projection. Although individuals will not have the opportunity to manipulate the images on the screen, they can still appreciate the moving/still display. Non-interactive video walls, in turn, are less expensive than interactive and still allow you to display amazing dynamic content, simply without the engaging interactive involvement.

2) Will your video wall have thin bezels or standard bezels?

Video walls come with standard bezels and seamless bezels. The Standard

Bezels are 16mm, while the Seamless Bezels are 5.7mm and are more expensive. It simply depends on whether or not you want your wall seamless so it makes one large video screen, or you would like it standard so you see multiple TV’s side by side. The thinner the bezel the more expensive your wall may be.

3) What size would you like your video display?

Video walls range in price depending on the size. The smaller the display, the lower the price. Intermedia Touch offers video walls as small as 2×2, which includes four monitors, and as large as 10×10 which includes 100 monitors. Video walls should be custom developed for the space you have in mind. Some video walls are more horizontal, others are more vertical and some are a perfect square, all depending on your needs and location. This wall represents your business so esthetics are an important factor.

4) Would you like your video wall to be a portable unit or wall mounted?

Portable video wall units are typically more expensive, but come in handy primarily for casino promotions, educational purposes, temporary stadium displays, etc. For public spaces like airports and health care institutions, a standard wall mounted unit will suffice and be more economical. This way the video wall can be installed on an existing surface and not require a custom built mobile unit.

5) Custom applications

The price of your application will depend on the content that you are looking for. Applications can be built for the backend, like a CMS, or can be developed for the front-end, like screensavers and games. Costs will depend on the complexity of your applications, whether or not it is interactive, and the time-frame in which it is needed.
